All for Christ

Charles Thomas (C.T.) Studd seemed destined for fame and success. A highly honored athlete, he twice was declared “the best all-round cricket player” in England.

Born on this date in 1860, he was the son of a wealthy Englishman. But life for the family changed when their father, Edward, heard D.L. Moody preach. As a result, Edward gave his life to Christ and dedicated his resources to the Gospel.

For C.T., the turning point came after hearing a missionary speak about the need for workers in China. Convicted by the message of Psalm 2, he realized that God was willing to give His people the nations…if they would ask. So C.T. asked, believed, and put his faith into action.

Following through on this commitment, C.T. and six other students sailed to China in 1885. This began a lifetime dedicated to missions that also took him to India and Africa, leaving a record of audacity. Because of his conviction that God would bless those who had faith in Him, his commitment changed the course of nations.

One colleague commented that C.T. was remembered for “his courage in any emergency, his determination never to sound the retreat, his conviction that he was in God’s will, his faith that God would see him through, his contempt of the arm of the flesh, and his willingness to risk all for Christ.”

In your life, join with the prayers of saints throughout the world. Pray that God would give us the nations. Pray that the knowledge of the Lord will cover the earth as the waters cover the seas. Pray that God would bring revival throughout the world. And commit your time, talent, and treasure to spreading the Gospel.
