Abundance in Famine

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

Trust God’s promises to bring abundance in famine—He is your Provider, giving peace, provision, and the ability to bless others.

“They will not be ashamed in the time of evil, and in the days of famine they will have plenty.”—Psalm 37:19 NASB

Famine. Few conditions are more frightening. In addition to life without adequate food and nourishment, famine also can refer to financial devastation when jobs are lost and businesses collapse; weather disasters and crop failures; or times of uncertainty, worry, and fear.

But God reminds us that He is sovereign, even during times of famine. Amazingly, He promises that the righteous “will have plenty” in the “days of famine.” If we trust and obey Him, we can be confident He will sustain us.

The Lord is faithful. We can stand on His Word and trust Him as Jehovah Jireh, our Provider (Genesis 22:14). God never will fail us (Hebrews 13:5). He will establish our steps, provide for us, and deliver us from worry. David testified that he had never seen the righteous forsaken nor his descendants begging for bread (v. 25).

God blesses us so that we might be a blessing to others. “All day long,” we are to be gracious and lend, looking for ways to help others (v. 26).

People all around you may go through anxious times, worrying about the future and world conditions. But if you trust in the Lord, you can be freed from worry and fear.

Declare God’s promises to be true. Seek a more intimate relationship with Him and cast all your cares upon Him, trusting that He will provide for you, even during times of famine!

Reflection Question: How can you trust God’s provision in uncertain times?
