A Unified Force

While the Israelites were still in the wilderness, Korah led a rebellion against Moses and Aaron. Frustrated by their lack of progress toward the Promised Land, Korah concluded that it was time for new leaders.

He criticized Moses and Aaron, claiming they were spiritually arrogant. They claimed to speak for God, but Korah suggested that everyone in the community was “holy.” People openly began to defy Moses’ leadership. When two men were summoned by Moses, they said, “We will not come!”

God dealt harshly with this rebellion, making sure everyone knew that Moses was His chosen leader. We see why as the Israelites crossed the Jordan. The whole community needed to be organized for battle. Each person needed to know exactly what to do. Like a well-trained military unit, they needed to respond to their leader without hesitation or questions.

The kind of rebellion demonstrated by Korah destroys the structure that produces victory. Efficiency and unity are shattered by pride and arrogance, when we exalt ourselves and think first about our own ideas and what we believe is best for us. When we question God and His chosen leaders.

The operations of the Israelite army provide us with a picture of the body of Christ. The body is the healthiest and most efficient when people focus on their assignment, and follow the directions of their commander without hesitation. When the leaders are tuned to God and following His leading.

In your life, make sure that you are sensitive to God’s leading, fulfilling your place in the body of Christ.
