A Tithe

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

How do you approach God’s command to give a tithe of your income to Him?

“You shall surely tithe all the produce from what you sow … tithe of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and your flock, so that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.”Deuteronomy 14:22–23 NASB

Tithing was not an option, but a command from God. It was central to His relationship with His people—a reminder that everything was a gift from Him. God promised His people He would protect and provide for them as long as they obeyed Him and kept Him first. Moses taught them that the tithe was “the Lord’s,” holy to Him (Leviticus 27:30).

As the Israelites prepared to enter the Promised Land, Moses urged them to remember that tithing was vital to God. They were to tithe everything—not just sometimes or when convenient, but “every year.”

This command is perpetually true, for all generations. The goal is not just outward compliance, but transformation of hearts “that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always.”

Why is this important? Because the same principles are true today. Our tithes also bring His promises. There are many excuses for not tithing and faithfully giving to God, but He wants us to see that giving is a vital key to His blessing—that in everything we do, we need to seek first His Kingdom.

Make sure God has first place in your heart. Demonstrate that commitment by giving Him your time, talents, and treasures. Give Him His tithe—and also bring Him your offerings and sow seeds into His Kingdom. He is worthy. Trust your life to Him.

Reflection Question: Is it time to review your budget and change your tithe amount?
