A Sharp Axe

Just like a sharp axe makes work easier, godly wisdom leads to success. Seek His wisdom daily to be more effective in all you do.

“If the axe is dull and he does not sharpen its edge, then he must exert more strength. Wisdom has the advantage of bringing success.”—Ecclesiastes 10:10 NASB

The man who chops wood has no doubts about the accuracy of this Scripture verse. He knows he needs a sharp axe. Why? Because a sharp axe increases efficiency and reduces waste.

The opposite is also true: A dull axe means working harder to achieve the same results, a decline in productivity, and an increase in frustration.

The Bible says wisdom is like a sharp axe. Guided by wisdom, our efforts will achieve success. We’ll be more efficient and waste less time and energy. We’ll make better use of our resources. In contrast, acting without wisdom is like chopping wood with a dull axe.

Wisdom comes from God, and He wants to give us His wisdom, so we can experience His power and success. The Lord gives us His wisdom as we are filled with His Word, devoted to prayer, and humble. To stay sharp, we must submit every project to Him and seek to be good stewards of the gifts and abilities He’s given us. We must be committed to obeying Him and fulfilling His goals, staying strong in the Holy Spirit.

Today, seek God for His wisdom in everything you do. Fill your mind and heart with His Word, then put His Word into practice in your life. Ask Him for answers to the problems you face. Believe Him for the tools and strategies you need to be more successful and fruitful.
