A Life of Integrity

The writings of Niccolò Machiavelli contain ruthlessness that has inspired many dictators and callous business practices. His ideas have encouraged people to do whatever it takes to get what they want. To achieve personal desires, at any cost, believing that the end always justifies the means. In his eyes, it was a sign of weakness to care about other people, or seek eternal standards. It was wrong even to appear merciful. To get ahead, people needed to be willing to do cruel things if necessary.

Today, many people live according to these Machiavellian principles. But the Bible provides another standard. It teaches the kind of life that pleases God. That results in His blessings and eternal rewards. This means seeking to obey His Word all the time. To remember that He knows what we do, and why we do it, and that each of us will have to give an account of our lives.

We find this focus clearly in

Psalm 15, where David encouraged believers to focus on God. To spend time with Him, and seek to please Him with a holy lifestyle. To walk with integrity, without compromise. To seek to be trustworthy and faithful. Always speaking truth. Remembering that, in His sight, the end does not justify the means.

Today, seek to abide with God. Worship Him. Pray like Jesus, “not My will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42). Stand firmly on His Word and reject compromise. Seek His eternal rewards and discover the joy of intimate fellowship with Him.
