Ready for God’s Move

When your situation feels impossible, where do you turn? Jeremiah heard God’s greatest promise—“call to me and I will answer”—from inside a prison cell.

“Thus says the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it … Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known” (Jeremiah 33:2–3).

Obeying God, Jeremiah delivered an unpopular message: Jerusalem would be given over to Babylon. Instead of responding to God’s warnings, the leaders sent Jeremiah to prison. To him, this must have seemed like a hopeless situation. But, there in prison, God spoke to him.

God reminded him that He had created the world. He was greater than any king or nation. If Jeremiah sought Him, God would move in a new way and reveal “great and unsearchable things you do not know” (NIV).

This encouraging word also applied to His people Israel, for they too faced a situation that seemed impossible. They were opposed by the mighty Babylonian army, and God Himself had warned of judgment for their idolatry.

Yet He also promised abundance: One day, Jerusalem would hear the voice of joy and gladness. He would “restore the fortunes of the land” (v. 11).

We need to remember these promises as we look at the nation of Israel today—surrounded by enemies and outnumbered. Regardless of their problems, God still loves them and His promises are true. He will fulfill His plan for them, no matter how difficult the challenges appear.

These words are also true for you! You may feel overwhelmed with problems that seem impossible to solve. But you serve Almighty God. He’s more powerful than any problem you face. Accept His invitation—His command—to call upon Him. He will do great things for you!
