Wisdom That Prepares the Heart

Wisdom that prepares the heart. First Kings 10 shows how a life shaped by obedience and prayer becomes prepared—when we seek God’s wisdom rather than our own gain, He equips our hearts to meet challenges with confidence and discernment.

“When the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to test him with hard questions” (1 Kings 10:1).

As a young man, Solomon “loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father” (3:3). Then at a key moment in his life, God appeared to him in a dream and made an amazing offer: “Ask what you wish me to give you” (3:5).

Solomon did not ask for riches, power, pleasure, or success. Instead, he asked God to give him “an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil” (3:9).

This request greatly pleased the Lord, who told Solomon He would give him “a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise” (3:12). Then, He also gave him riches and honor. Thanks to God’s blessing, Solomon became “wiser than all other men” (4:31).

As his reputation spread, people came from all over the world to seek his wisdom. Even the queen of Sheba arrived with hard questions. As she tested him, Solomon seemed eager to respond, and she was impressed. Solomon was ready for this and other tests.

Seek God’s wisdom and understanding for the tasks you’ve been given. Fill your mind with God’s Word. Submit your life to Him, and allow Him to teach and guide you.

Don’t take His blessings for granted, but seek to develop and use the gifts and talents He’s given you. Then you can be confident in Him … always ready.
