Helping Others Fulfill Their God-Given Dreams

Joseph shows the power of helping others fulfill their God-given dreams by seeking God’s wisdom to bring encouragement and guidance.

“It happened at the end of two full years that Pharaoh had a dream … He fell asleep and dreamed a second time … In the morning his spirit was troubled … but there was no one who could interpret them for Pharaoh.”—Genesis 41:1–8 NASB

Pharaoh had a dream … then a second dream. He sensed that both conveyed vital information, but he couldn’t grasp their meaning. Frustrated, he sought help, but no one could provide an interpretation. No wonder his spirit was troubled!

But, his cupbearer remembered Joseph, who had correctly interpreted his and the chief baker’s dreams when they were in prison. He believed Joseph could help Pharaoh.

Just as the cupbearer promised, Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dream, all the while giving glory to God and acknowledging that he was simply His messenger. Joseph also gave Pharaoh a plan for surviving the coming drought revealed in the dreams. Pharaoh was so pleased that he named Joseph head over the land of Egypt, second only to himself.

Joseph demonstrated his readiness to help. Through his experience of being spurned by family, he knew what it was like to have dreams that others couldn’t understand. These events in his own life prepared him to seek God on behalf of others who had received a dream and needed an interpretation.

Ask God to give you greater sensitivity to the needs of others. He may bring people into your life who need help and encouragement, a sympathetic ear, understanding, or resources. Like Joseph, be ready to listen, seek God on their behalf, and come to their aid. Be ready to bless others with the blessings He has given you.
