The Real Evidence of Faith

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

Paul reminds us that the real evidence of faith isn’t in appearances but in a life shaped by Christ and lived for His Kingdom purposes.

“We are not commending ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to be proud of us, so that you will have an answer for those who take pride in appearance and not in heart.”—2 Corinthians 5:12 NASB

Paul wasn’t interested in defending or “commending” himself. He wasn’t interested in building a personal kingdom or competing with others for influence or control. He wasn’t worried about the opinions of the world, enhancing his own reputation, or building a successful career.

What was Paul’s focus? He wanted to serve God by reaching lost people for Christ and helping Christians grow in their knowledge of God’s Word.

Some people were more conscious of how things appeared on the surface, rather than with how things truly were “in heart.” Paul wanted his upright conduct to provide the Corinthians with ammunition to respond to those “who take pride in appearance and not in heart.” Yes, Paul wanted them to be proud of him and his companions, not for his own sake, but rather for the impact of his life on others.

How we conduct our lives inevitably has an impact on others. We need to keep this in mind as we make choices about how we live. Many allow their lives to be shaped by things that won’t last. Our focus must be on God’s eternal Kingdom.

God has blessed you so that you can be a blessing to others. He’s given you unique gifts and talents, and you have unique opportunities to serve Him. Allow God to use you. Consider how your life impacts others for the Gospel. Dedicate your time, talents, and treasures to His Kingdom.

Reflection Question: How is your life providing evidence of a heart committed to Christ?
