Mourning to Dancing
Mourning to dancing reminds us that when we turn to God, He will replace sorrow with joy and transform even our darkest seasons into songs of praise.
“You have turned my mourning into dancing … You have untied my sackcloth and encircled me with joy, that my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent. LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.”—Psalm 30:11–12 NASB
How easily we can become absorbed in the emotions of the moment. Reacting to events, we can allow our lives to become saturated with anger, bitterness, fear, or dejection.
But David discovered that God had the power to change everything. When he turned to Him, God turned his mourning into celebration! He didn’t have to remain despondent. God lifted the darkness that surrounded him and replaced it with light. He changed hopelessness into hope and dread into confident victory.
God changed his attitude! Although he felt dejection and grief at times, he discovered that God could fill his life with songs of praise. Instead of cursing his circumstances or wallowing in anguish, he could be thankful.
No matter what is happening in your life, remember that God still loves you and has a plan for your life. Commit every situation to Him, no matter how big or small, no matter what obstacles you might face or how hopeless everything may seem. Instead of being dominated by doubt, worry, fear, and discouragement, realize you can depend on Him.
Allow God to fill your heart with joy and confidence. Trust in Him. Come alive in Christ and celebrate the goodness of God! Let Him turn your mourning into dancing!
