Where Hope Truly Lies

Ben CerulloBy Ben Cerullo5 Minutes

Over the years, I’ve been amazed by all the different places people put their hope. Some lean on the traditions of their church, trusting that if they do all the right things, they’ll be okay. Others place their confidence in doctors or medical treatments, thinking that modern science will be their safeguard.

The advice from friends is often a source of comfort, or for some, the words of a TV host or bestselling author. Still others trust their own wisdom, thinking they can figure it all out on their own. But Jesus offers a different message. He tells us there’s only one place to truly put our hope, only one foundation that can hold strong when life’s storms hit. That foundation is His Word, not just heard, but lived.

Jesus doesn’t shy away from the truth—building on this solid rock requires effort. It’s not enough to casually hear His words; we must put them into practice. It’s like digging deep, finding something strong and steady to build on. On a bright, sunny day, it might seem like any foundation will do, and we may not notice a difference. But Jesus warns us that storms will come—the rain will pour, the wind will blow, and the floods will rise. And when they do, the foundation matters more than ever. Only those who have built their lives on the solid rock of His Word will stand firm.

As we start a new season, I encourage you to pause and reflect. Take some time to ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart. What is your life really built on? Have you built on the unshakable rock of God’s promises, or is your foundation on the shifting sands of human wisdom and strength? The storms of life will come—are you ready for them?

Choosing to Believe

Faith is both a gift from God and a choice we must make. The Bible tells us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5 NKJV). This means that every day we face a decision. Will we choose to trust God’s promises, or will we depend on our own intelligence and reasoning? It’s easy to lean on our understanding, especially when things seem uncertain. But God calls us to something deeper, a reliance on Him that doesn’t waver, even when we don’t understand His ways.

I’ve been fortunate to witness God’s power in remarkable ways. I’ve seen supernatural healings take place across the globe—on nearly every continent, in fact. Time and again, I’ve been reminded that God’s power isn’t just a story from the past. He’s still at work today healing bodies, mending broken hearts, and restoring what’s been lost. The Bible assures us: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8 NKJV). What He did 2,000 years ago, He’s still doing today. And here’s an astonishing truth: the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you (Romans 8:11). You are a walking miracle, a testimony to the life-changing power of God.

Faith and Patience

But I know that sometimes we pray for miracles, and the answer seems delayed. It can be discouraging, even disheartening, when we don’t see immediate results. Why, we wonder, does God seem to wait? While I don’t claim to understand every situation, I do know this: sometimes God’s timing is different from ours. His ways are higher, and sometimes He calls us to persevere in faith, to keep trusting, even when the answer seems far off.

The Bible tells us, “Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up” (Galatians 6:9 CSB). We are also told that it takes both faith and patience to inherit God’s promises (Hebrews 6:12). Sometimes the delay is simply part of the journey.

So, friend, I encourage you to keep going. Keep your hope alive even in the waiting. Trust in the promises of God. Keep standing in faith, confident that God will be faithful to fulfill His Word. He hasn’t forgotten you, and He won’t fail you. Your breakthrough is on its way.
