Fear No Evil

Fear No Evil

Fear no evil. What puts fear into your mind? Does a dramatic experience cause you to relive those moments and make you fearful? Does fear of the unknown cause worry? Do you think of fear as being associated with something evil? Seeking God during times can bring comfort and peace.

You may have heard someone say, “That person is evil.” Or “Their actions are evil.” News reports on television, radio, and social media tell of horrendous acts carried out for a variety of reasons that often can’t be understood. Perhaps you have heard or read, “Their intentions were evil.” What does that mean?

As Christians, we question why these things happen. We wonder what would cause a person to commit an evil act. We ask God why evil exists.

The Bible tells us that while we are on this earth, there will be times of trouble. The New Testament book of John shares words of wisdom spoken by Jesus.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NIV).

Jesus told the disciples that they would experience pain and mourning. But, Jesus also shared they would be comforted by the Holy Spirit.

In that time and today, we can find comfort knowing that during our painful times and when evil tries to enter our lives or influence behavior, we can find comfort in God.

Scripture calls us to be alert at all times. “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8 NIV).

Yes, the world is filled with dangerous people and situations. In those times, seeking God can help us journey through uncertainty. We have a Savior named Jesus Christ who came to set us free from the captivity of sin.

Resting in the promises of God can help us to “fear no evil.” Living with fear and dread is not how God wants His children to experience life. God wants us to have faith and trust in Him. When evil tries to prevail, we can rest assured judgment will be given by God.

Because we are humans, fear enters our thoughts and may take control at times. However, we are not bound to that emotion. Having faith and trusting God can be the paths to knowing Him and deepening the relationship.

Praying can bring peace. Scripture shares words to remember and share with others.

In the Old Testament book of Psalms, David reminds us of the comfort God provides.

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4 NIV).

Be alert, be ready to defend with the full armor of God, and rest in His promises. Confidence in the teachings and promises of God allows us to have a deeper relationship with Him.

God will not allow evil to prevail. God loves His creations and knows each one by name.

Dear God, thank You for comforting us and leading us away from evil. Thank You for Your love and mercy.

Amen.

In His Name,

Melissa Henderson
