It’s our special time to stop, be still, and prepare ourselves for what God has for us this day. Well, here we are. To your regular workload, I know many of you add school plays, social functions at work, sending Christmas cards, buying and wrapping gifts … would you like me to stop now? Are you beginning to feel the Christmas pressure?

You might be wondering as I did for so long: is there really any other way? Can we really stop and enjoy a daily devotional and prayer while accomplishing all that’s on our list and enjoy the season? It sounds rather impossible, doesn’t it? But Daniel from the Old Testament shows us the way. In his writings in Daniel 1:8, we read where he purposed in his heart not to be swayed from his own convictions.

Today, while the month is still young, we can do the same. First, we can identify what we want this Christmas to mean to us and our family. Secondly, we can look at our schedules and ask: which activities contribute to my Christmas values and which aren’t all that important and may even interfere with celebrating Christmas the way my heart really wants to.

And then lastly, say yes by saying no! You see, it’s okay to say no to all the demands and expectations because when you say no, you’re actually saying yes to the Christmas that you want. Let’s pray about that. You want to?

Dear Father, it’s so easy to let other people dictate our Christmas priorities, but this year we want to celebrate in a way that reflects the real reason for the season. Help us to be true to the Christmas values You have placed in our hearts.

Friends, thank you so much for joining me. I do pray our time will strengthen your walk during this Christmas season.
