Can I Trust the Bible Is True?

Melissa HendersonBy Melissa Henderson5 Minutes

In seasons of doubt, many ask: Can I trust the Bible is true? God’s Word gives unshakable answers, guiding us to faith, wisdom, and a closer walk with Him.

Have you ever known someone who wonders if the Bible is true? Perhaps that person is you. In dark and desperate times, the question of “Can I trust the Bible is true?” may have entered into the thoughts of a person journeying through difficult situations. As Christians, we know that when we accept Christ into our lives, we can rest in the promises of God. Yes, the Bible is true.

The Power of Studying God’s Word

Bible study groups can be found in most churches. Groups for women, men, teens, children, seniors, and more specialized gatherings may be offered. Some churches open their doors to large gatherings of weekly Bible study meetings that are offered for members and non-members.

The fact that there are so many Bible study groups available in numerous areas of the world tells us that people are seeking to know God. People are yearning for a closer relationship with Him. Whether we are studying the Bible alone or in a group, we can trust in the Word of God.

Guidance for Every Believer

A new believer and a seasoned believer both need guidance when reading Scripture. One of the first things I do before reading the Bible is to pray and ask God to open my heart and mind to absorb the message. Each word in the Bible is given to us by God.

If there is a verse or section of the Bible that is hard to understand, guidance is available for interpreting its meaning. Asking a member of clergy for guidance or sharing questions with a Bible study group are ways to learn more.

God’s Choice of Messengers

God gave wisdom to everyday people so they would be able to record His message for generations to come. God did not choose the wealthy and popular. He chose people whom others could relate to and empathize with on their journey of faith.

  • Matthew, one of the disciples of Christ, was a tax collector. When Jesus called him, Matthew left his life and became a faithful follower.
  • Isaiah, a prophet, spoke about the Messiah to come: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God” (Isaiah 40:3 NIV).
  • Luke, a physician, accompanied Paul and faithfully recorded the Gospel story.

Through people then and now, God brings His message of hope and love to the world. Each person must make the decision to believe in Him.

Living in the Word Today

Reading the Bible in a group setting can offer the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about Scripture. Personal daily Bible reading also presents the opportunity to share a more intimate relationship with God.

Start with prayer: thank God for the Bible, ask for forgiveness, give praise, and request wisdom and discernment. As we pray and read, God reveals new insights and helps us rest in His promises.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV).

Knowing Scripture allows us to stand strong and share the love of Christ with others.
