The Ultimate Love Story: God’s Love at Calvary

If you’re like a lot of people, you may have found yourself doubting God’s love for you at some point in your life. This frequently happens when you’re faced with tough decisions, financial concerns, emotional or physical heartache, or a death of someone close to you.

Instead of living in a fog of doubt, why not instead look to I John 4:9-10 for this Scriptural truth:

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

John is telling us that God is love. And not only that — He showed His love by sending His son to die for us.

We hear this story a lot around Easter, but what about the rest of the year when you need reassurance?

Whenever you doubt God’s love for you, go back to what happened on the cross. God loved you enough to give His Son to die for you, in spite of how you lived your life.

Having given you the priceless gift He did, there is no way He can NOT love you.

He Wants Your Love in Return

What God wants most from the sacrifice He gave is for you to love Him in return. He tells you this in Hosea 6:6 when He says, “For it is love that I seek.”

He made you to love you, and He longs for your love in return. In fact, Jesus called loving God the greatest commandment when He said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Luke 10:27).

So how is it possible for you to do everything to the glory of God? By simply doing everything as though you were doing it for Jesus! The Bible says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men” (Colossians 3:23).

The Relationship Will Grow

Remember that spiritual maturity takes time. Just as it took time for you to mature from a toddler to the person you are today, your journey to absolute development in His name will not only take time – it may take the rest of your life.

But during that journey, remain patient in knowing He is by your side and His love can never leave you.

Be comforted in knowing that as the Spirit of the Lord works within you, you will become more like Him and reflect His glory even more (2 Corinthians 3:18).

And within that glory, you will always know His love.
