Five Traits of a Faith Warrior

What makes us forget who we are in Christ? Is it the cares of life? The devil? Or just our own preoccupation with looking like everybody else?

The truth is, our identity as believers should be so evident and strong that it forever brands us as “Faith Warriors.” As followers of Christ, our resemblance to Jesus should be an eternal reminder of who we are as God’s children.

Here are some specific traits that describe a Faith Warrior:

Understand Your Identity

As a Faith Warrior, you know who you are as a child of God. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:21 that in Christ you have “the righteousness of God.” That means your Heavenly Father sees you as having the same righteousness as Jesus has!

Too many Christians are still stuck in a sin consciousness plagued by a deep awareness of their past sin and shame. However, in God’s eyes you’re just as sinless as our Lord and Savior. Your Father loves you just like He loves His Son Jesus, and He has declared you to be a joint heir of His Kingdom.

Exhibit Love

Faith Warriors should be full of God’s compassion and mercy. Remember the story in Luke 9:51-56 where James and John wanted to call down fire from Heaven on those who didn’t respond to Jesus right away? The Lord rebuked them and said, “The Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.”

Jesus was a person of love, and His followers should be as well. Faith works through love (Galatians 5:6), and faith ceases to operate when love stops flowing.

Hope Against All Hope

Contrary to any evidence they might see with their natural eyes, Faith Warriors are able to maintain their hope in the Lord. Paul describes in Romans 4:18 how faith and hope were a central part of Abraham’s mindset. There was no natural reason Abraham could expect to have a child. But he hoped against hope. Because of his intimate personal relationship with God, he was able to line up his beliefs and actions with what he knew God could do. You know your faith is genuine when you still have hope, even when things look bad.

Be Single-Minded

Remember Caleb? Throughout his life, he was single-minded and full of faith for God’s promises to be fulfilled. He knew that God had promised him an inheritance, and after 40 years of wandering in the desert, he was focused on getting that inheritance. No one could shake his faith.

Perhaps you’re looking around today, and everybody else seems to be wavering. But the Lord is calling you to be a Faith Warrior like Caleb was. He wants you to confidently say, “If God said it, then that settles it. I don’t care what things looks like. I don’t care what people are saying. I’m trusting in God’s Word and releasing my faith.”

Speak Words of Faith

Jesus asked blind Bartimaeus, “What do you want Me to do for you?” (Mark 10:51). Because faith is always tied to our words, Jesus needed the man to express his need.

Friend, God wants you to be a Faith Warrior today. Express your need to God and let Him answer you. Believe His promises and make them a daily confession from your lips.
