Cry Out for Fire: The Power of the Holy Spirit Today
All through the Bible, God responded to men and women who were desperate for Him.
They were not casual believers. They were not satisfied with a little religion. They were not trying to fit God into their lives. They wanted Him more than anything else.
That is the kind of person God can use.
From the altar on Mount Carmel to the Upper Room on the Day of Pentecost, the fire of God fell on people who were willing to give Him everything. They did not hold back. They did not make excuses. They laid their lives before Him.
The fire of the Holy Spirit is the purifying, empowering presence of God at work in a surrendered believer’s life. It is seen at Pentecost in Acts 2, and it is still available today to those who seek God.
You do not have to live a powerless Christian life. You do not have to be cold, dry, and empty. God has more for you than empty religion and going through the motions.
There is fire for you. There is power for you. There is a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit for you. But you must want it.
What Is the Fire of the Holy Spirit?
The fire of the Holy Spirit is not hype. It is not emotion. It is not something man can manufacture.
It is the presence and power of God coming upon a life that is fully surrendered to Him.
The fire of God purifies. It burns up compromise. It exposes what cannot remain. It takes what is weak, fearful, and ordinary, and fills it with the power of the Holy Spirit.
This is not just a religious idea. This is what God has done all through Scripture. He answers surrender with fire. He fills hungry hearts with power. He uses men and women who are willing to give Him everything.
If you want the fire of the Holy Spirit, you cannot be satisfied with empty religion. You cannot settle for hearing about what God did in someone else’s life. You must go after Him for yourself.
A Life Laid on the Altar
Many of the stories in the Bible are about people who were sold-out fanatics for God. If they lived today, the world would call them crazy. Some people in the church would probably say they had gone too far.
But God used them.
Why? Because they were not playing games.
Abraham left everything familiar when God called him. Moses stood before Pharaoh with nothing but the word of the Lord. Elijah stood on Mount Carmel and called on the God who answers by fire. The disciples left their nets, their homes, and their old lives to follow Jesus.
They were surrendered.
If you want to be used by God, you cannot live half in and half out. You cannot keep one hand on the world and one hand raised toward heaven and expect the fire to fall.
You will not walk in the power of the Holy Spirit by praying once in a while, reading a few Christian books, attending a few church services, or going to an occasional conference. Those things are not enough. They cannot replace a life laid on the altar.
God is waiting to send His fire down on men and women who have prepared their lives as sacrifices.
Not everyone is willing to pay the price.
Your natural mind will try to talk you out of it. Your flesh will resist it. People may criticize you. Some may not understand why you are so hungry for God. But if you want the fire, you must lay everything on the altar.
Lay your plans on the altar. Lay your pride on the altar. Lay your comfort on the altar. Lay your reputation on the altar. Lay your future on the altar.
God wants your life.
Romans 12:1 tells us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God. That is not a suggestion for a few serious Christians. That is the call of God.
When you lay yourself on the altar, the fire will burn up what you used to be. The fire will take your imperfections. The fire will consume your pride, your compromise, your fear, and everything that has kept you from being fully surrendered to God.
The fire of God does not fall on empty religion. It falls on sacrifice.
No altar, no fire. No surrender, no power.
The Fire of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost
When the Holy Spirit fell on the Day of Pentecost, it was not quiet religion. It was not business as usual. It was a sudden manifestation of the presence of God.
Acts 2:2 says, “Suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.”
They were all in one place. They were waiting. They were hungry. They were going after God.
Then suddenly, heaven came down.
The Holy Spirit came upon them. Tongues as of fire rested on them. They were baptized in the Holy Spirit and fire. They were endued with power from on high.
That fire changed everything.
Peter, who had denied Jesus, stood up and preached with boldness. The disciples, who had been afraid, became witnesses. Ordinary men and women were filled with supernatural power. The Church was born in fire.
That is the same fire God wants to give you today.
The fire of the Holy Spirit is not just something you read about in the Book of Acts. It is not just for apostles. It is not just for preachers. It is not just for people on a platform.
It is for hungry believers.
You need that fire. You need power to live holy. You need boldness to speak for Jesus. You need strength to stand when everything around you is shaking. You need the Holy Spirit to come upon you until your life is no longer ordinary.
Jesus did not tell His disciples to go out and try harder. He told them to wait until they were endued with power from on high.
If they needed the fire, you need the fire.
How to Cry Out for the Holy Spirit Today
You do not have to wait for another day. You do not have to wait for a conference. You do not have to wait for someone else to stir you up.
You can go after God right now.
Do not sit back and hope something happens. Cry out to God. Press into His presence. Ask Him to fill you with the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to burn everything out of you that is not pleasing to Him. Ask Him to make you bold. Ask Him to make you holy. Ask Him to make you usable.
The world does not need powerless Christians. The Church does not need more lukewarm religion. God is looking for men and women who will carry His fire.
Do not be content with reading about Pentecost. Do not be satisfied with hearing about what God did in someone else’s life. Do not settle for a powerless walk with God when the fire of the Holy Spirit is available to you today.
Step boldly in faith.
Ask God to come.
Lay your life on the altar.
Cry out for fire.
Don’t miss this moment.
Pray for the Fire of the Holy Spirit
Don’t let this be just another article you read and forget. If your heart is hungry for more of God, stop right now and cry out to Him. Lay your life before the Lord. Ask Jesus to fill you afresh with the Holy Spirit and fire. Trust Him to meet you, empower you, and use your life for His glory.
Pray now: “Lord, I surrender everything to You. Set my heart on fire for Jesus. Fill me afresh with the Holy Spirit. Burn away anything that does not please You, and use my life for Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
