3 Profound Reasons to Give Your Life to Christ Now

In a world full of instant gratification, it is common that people seek options to get them further faster. We want to see positive results right away, and we want what’s safe, satisfying and secure. The world will tell you that to be truly happy, you must cling to as much control as possible; the media can easily make you feel that you are defined by money, belongings or status. However, there is only One who can truly define you and fulfill the deepest desires of your soul. His name is Jesus Christ. There are many reasons why giving your life to Christ is more than worth it; to list all of them is an endless task. For the sake of simplicity, I’ll suggest three profound reasons to decide today to follow Christ. Ultimately, receiving salvation gives us true freedom, it is a free gift, and you never really know what your future holds, so why not surrender your life to Jesus right now? He gave his life for you so that you could have eternal life.

Reason #1: Freedom and Fulfillment

Too many people go through life seeking complete gratification in places where it can never be found. They also mistakenly assume that the one place it can be found — the Gospel — is filled with hefty rules and restrictions. However, walking with Christ is a privilege and an awakening to the purpose for which we were created. It does not force you to live “handcuffed” or miserable. It’s exactly the opposite. When you accept Christ, you gain freedom, not restriction. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1).

Additionally, we are not perfect; becoming more like Christ is a journey. Through the process of sanctification, God works in your heart to help you desire what He also desires for you. When you truly love Him, you understand that He has your best interest at heart, and you want what He wants, because it is for your good. He fills your heart in a way that no one and nothing else can. “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4).

Reason #2: It is a Free Gift

Most of the time, when someone gives you a gift, you must accept it to receive it. For example, if a friend gives you a box of chocolates for your birthday, you have the choice to accept that gift and enjoy it, just as you also have the choice to throw it in the trash, rejecting and wasting it. Accepting Christ is the same — it is a gift, it is a choice, and it is free. Because He loves us, He gives us free will, but He desires that we all would come to know Him. “The Lord does not delay his promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).

While we have a great religious heritage in our nation, that can lead people to believe that becoming a Christian means practicing a religion and doing good works — things that we can do to earn a place in Heaven. But that self-help, independent mentality works against us when it comes to understanding there is nothing we can do to save ourselves. It is always, only, about accepting what Christ has done on our behalf. It truly is about a relationship, not a religious practice. Once we have received the gift of salvation, the good habits of Bible reading, prayer and attending church should follow, to help us grow in our faith, but of themselves, they will never be enough.

Reason #3: You Never Know

No one really knows when their last day on earth will come. Unexpected tragedies happen all the time, and because sin exists in the world, so do sickness, accidents, and death. You can plan and predict and procrastinate, but you do not know what the future holds. Why wait to surrender your life to Christ, when you can do it right now? There is no real reason to put off accepting the best gift you can ever receive. It is free, and it is ready for you. Surrender your life, be changed for the better, and spend eternity with Jesus Christ in heaven. He is waiting, and He loves you. “Jesus replied, ‘Truly I tell you, unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God’” (John 3:3).

Eastern Europe and Our Mission

In the Bible, we read about Jesus’ disciples having to drop everything to follow Christ. Luke 9:59-62 reads, “Then he said to another, ‘Follow me.’ ‘Lord,’ he said, ‘first let me go bury my father.’ But he told him, ‘Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and spread the news of the kingdom of God.’ Another said, ‘I will follow you, Lord, but first let me go and say good-bye to those at my house.’ But Jesus said to him, ‘No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.’”

Examples such as this show even more why it is so important and worth it to follow Jesus Christ daily. He gives us our true purpose and identity. However, without a  Bible in our own language, how can one access God’s Word? According to Wycliffe Global Access, 1.45 billion people (5,509 languages) still do not have a full Bible in their native language. So to address this problem in one specific geographic area, Eastern European Mission (EEM) is striving to get the Bible into the hands of everyone in Eastern Europe. EEM publishes, prints, and distributes Bibles and Bible-based materials in over thirty European countries.

Our vision is, “The Bible, we want everyone to get it.”  Once you get a Bible in your hands and read it, you get God’s Word in your head, and then into your heart.  The natural response is to tell others of the good news of Jesus Christ and the certainty of your salvation.  Sharing the Gospel is the greatest responsibility we could ever have. Why not make an effort to do so?

Every decision is a decision; not making a decision is a decision. Do not allow the fear of not measuring up or having to follow too many rules hold you back from salvation. As stated previously, nearly everything is unknown, but when you accept Christ, you don’t have to fear, and you can know that you have Him in your heart forever.  Why not now?
