It was 1949. Tensions were high. Dwight Eisenhower had become the head of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), but the next steps were not clear. Beginning his assignment, Eisenhower met with key NATO leaders. Each affirmed that they faced great problems, but their focus was on their limited resources.

As an observer described, Eisenhower became “less and less impressed with this very negative approach.” Finally, he banged the podium, chastising each man for a defeatist attitude. Suddenly the atmosphere seemed to change. Instead of dwelling on their lack of resources, they began to focus on using what they had and could do.

Many believers are like those complaining to Eisenhower. Certainly Ezekiel could have complained that he had been given unrealistic assignments. But God told Ezekiel that he was just responsible to deliver the message he had been given. That was his focus. However, if he failed to deliver God’s messages, he would be considered liable (Ezekiel 3:17-21).

In similar ways, each of us is called by God. We are given specific resources and specific assignments. Our task is to be obedient – not to complain or worry, but to be faithful carrying out our responsibilities. We are to be good stewards.

Remember, your responsibility is to be a good steward of the resources you have been given. Fulfill the assignments God has given you. Don’t complain or worry, but stay faithful. Commit the results to Him.
