Your Life’s Purpose

Recently, more than 190,000 business leaders responded to this question: “How closely aligned is your job with your life’s purpose?” Sadly, most did not have a strong connection between their life and work.

About a third felt that there were “some aspects of my work tied to my life’s purpose.” Almost the same number felt that their “work has little to do with my life’s purpose.”

Saddest of all, less than 15% felt they hadn’t yet “figured out my life’s purpose.” As a result, their lives really didn’t have meaning. They may have been “successful” in business but they still were looking for direction.

Less than one-fourth felt that their work was “directly tied to my purpose in life.” Only these people sensed a strong connection between their life and work.

Many people go through life without a sense of purpose. They live their lives from moment to moment, cynical or discouraged, uncertain or anxious, lost or disconnected. This is experienced by men and women of every age, both rich and poor.

But the Bible tells us that God has a purpose for our lives (Romans 8:28). Each of us is special in His sight, and He has a unique calling for each individual. He wants us to have “a rich and satisfying life” (John 10:10 NLT).

If we lack meaning, the answer is to turn to God—not trying to figure out everything for ourselves, but to trust in Him. Instead of depending on our own understanding, we should acknowledge Him in everything, for He promises to make our “paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Do you have any doubts about your purpose? Make a decisive commitment to follow Jesus. Make Him the Lord of your life. Trust in Him. Be confident that God has a plan and a purpose for you. He will work everything together for your good.
