Your Life

I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books.—Revelation 20:12 NLT

A pioneering program in American television called This Is Your Life began airing in 1952. It allowed friends and family to honor a person whom they felt deserved recognition.

The Bible makes clear that all of us will face an event like this when we will be judged according to what we have said and done. It is the moment when God will open the book and evaluate our lives. This Is Your Life may have focused only on positive things, but God’s inspection will reveal everything.

What He sees in our lives might be pleasing to Him or focus on mistakes we have made. The thought of facing this judgment can fill us with dread and uncertainty. What will God say? What will be His verdict?

The Bible shows us how we can be ready right now. First, get our lives right with God by asking Him to convict us of sins, confessing our sins, and accepting His forgiveness. Next, repent, changing directions as He leads. Eliminate thoughts, words, and actions that displease Him.

Make this a day to get right with God. Spend time in prayer, letting Him search your heart. Fill your mind with His Word and compare your thoughts, words, and actions with His standard. Become sensitive to the convicting work of the Holy Spirit. Listen to His warnings. Let Him guide you and prepare you to face God.

Reflection Question: Ask God to search your heart, and then confess your sins to Him.
