When God’s Promises Seem Too Good to Be True

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

Some of God’s promises sound impossible at first—but When God’s Promises Seem Too Good to Be True reminds us that what He has prepared goes far beyond what we can see or imagine.

“But, as it is written, ‘What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him’” (1 Corinthians 2:9).

Marco Polo arrived back to his home in Venice in 1295. In a journey lasting 24 years, he had traveled to China and back. He had seen places, people, and things no European had seen and few could imagine. He told stories about previously unknown civilizations and landscapes, describing deserts and mountains, islands and rivers, spices and gold.

Many were intrigued. But to some, his stories seemed far-fetched and hard to believe. One account described them as “past all credence.” Yet we know that his stories were true.

Many react the same way to promises in the Bible. They seem amazing … hard to believe. Yet in the same way that Marco Polo knew what he was saying was true, Paul knew firsthand that God’s Kingdom was filled with riches beyond the imagination of most people that no one ever has seen, heard, or conceived “what God has prepared for those who love him.”

He described “visions and revelations of the Lord” from a man “caught up to the third heaven.” There, this man (whom many believe was Paul himself) “heard things that cannot be told” (2 Corinthians 12:1–4).

Even though God’s promises are true, many people—even some Christians—are filled with doubt. They would sooner place their hope and trust in the things of this world.

Dare to believe that God’s Word is true. All of it! Don’t allow doubt to rob you of His blessings.

Reflection Question: What promise of God feels hardest for you to believe right now?

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for all You’ve prepared for me. I believe Your Word. Grant me a deeper revelation of Your promises. In Jesus’ name, amen.
