Walking in Integrity Before God

As you consider God’s call to justice, Walking in Integrity Before God invites you to honor His standard with truth-filled choices in every area of life.

“You have sat on the throne giving righteous judgment. […] He judges the world with righteousness; he judges the peoples with uprightness.”—Psalm 9:4, 8

Tensions had intensified in Colonial America. In Boston in 1770, a lone British sentry stood guard over the Customs House. A church bell rang, and crowds poured into the streets. A melee resulted, and eight soldiers joined the sentry. Feeling threatened, they opened fire, killing five colonists.

The prevailing mood of the public was so hostile that it seemed impossible for these soldiers to receive a fair trial. When no one else could be found to defend them, the task fell to John Adams. Though he was an ardent patriot, he also believed every person had “the right to counsel and a fair trial.”

During the trial, he reminded the jury that our “wishes and passions … cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” The jury was convinced, acquitting six soldiers and giving the others light sentences.

The Bible describes how important justice is to God. He is righteous, and He loves justice. “The upright shall behold his face” (Psalm 11:7). He looks for people who realize that He “demands accurate scales and balances” and who know that “he sets the standard for fairness” (Proverbs 16:11 NLT).

Seek to be a person of integrity—in every business deal, in every word you say, in every relationship. Develop an unwavering commitment to truth—unable to be swayed by popular opinion or pressure. Remember, you’re accountable to God.
