Waiting Patiently

As a young boy, David seemed the least likely candidate to become Israel’s king. Even his father doubted his qualifications. Yet God directed the prophet Samuel to anoint David as king. He was the man he had chosen.

Yet Saul officially remained king. And David was forced to wait. He continued to wait, refusing to participate in any efforts to overthrow Saul. Even after Saul died, David remained patient, continuing to wait on God.

Finally, when the time was right, David made a covenant with Israel’s leaders, and he became king. If he had tried to force a decision earlier, there might have been violence or dissent. But, because he acted in God’s time, there were no rivals, questions, or doubts.

As we study the reaction of David’s advisors, we are reminded how easy it can be to be impatient and try to force events. It takes maturity, patience, and faith to wait on God, to believe that He has a perfect time.

This process begins as we believe that His promises are true, and that He will keep His Word. To realize that His time is best. He wants us to remain humble, submissive, and faithful, continuing to trust that He will open the doors, and bless us at just the right time.

In your life, make sure that you are being faithful with all that God has called you to do. Serve Him faithfully. Focus on your assignments. But always be careful to follow the leading of the Spirit.

Always waiting for the right time. Always trusting in God. Always waiting on Him.

Don’t be discouraged if you don’t see immediate results. You can trust Him to keep His promises.
