Trust God

Oh, that my request might come to pass, and that God would grant my hope!—Job 6:8 NASB

As he began to grow deaf, composer Ludwig Van Beethoven reacted with strong emotions. He recalled how he once possessed a perfect sense of hearing but had been forced to live in silence. He felt hopeless.

Beethoven’s reaction reminds us of Job. Like Job, Beethoven cursed God for the trials he was experiencing. He cried out to God, knowing He looked down on his inmost soul. Yet despite his questions, he continued to believe in God.

In the end, Job realized how wrong he had been, how little he understood, and how much he needed to trust God. He had heard so much about Him, “But now my eye sees You; therefore I retract, and I repent sitting on dust and ashes” (Job 42:5–6).

Beethoven was still able to accomplish great things. Instead of giving in to hopelessness and defeat, he broke new ground and impacted the course of history with his compositions. He had proven the Bible to be true: “Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial” (James 1:12).

If Beethoven and Job could speak to us, they might remind us that we, too, can trust God. We need to stay humble before Him and persevere in the face of trials.

Today, commit every situation you face to God. Be honest with Him and let Him know your concerns and frustrations. But always remember the blessings of perseverance, and always trust God.
