The Resurrection

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

God will give you insight into His Kingdom if you ask for His power of the resurrection.

“The sons of this age marry … but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; for they cannot even die anymore … being sons of the resurrection.”Luke 20:34–36 NASB

The Sadducees tried to trap Jesus, asking a hypothetical question about a man who died childless. Fulfilling the Law, his brother married the man’s wife, but he, too, died childless. The same happened to his other brothers. The Sadducees wondered, “In the resurrection therefore, which one’s wife will she be?”

Jesus answered by explaining that those who are “sons of this age” have a limited understanding of such matters. Saturated by the things of this world, they cannot conceive of the realities of the Kingdom of God.

But everything is different in that age to come. In the Kingdom of God, there are different rules and no limits. And in that age we will have a different nature. There will be no death. No aging, corruption, decay, or sin. No stress, anxiety, worry, fear, doubt, or disease. No war, poverty, or frustration.

Already, God does not have any limits in this age. He is beyond time, the God “of the living; for all live to Him” (v. 38). Jesus demonstrated this limitless power throughout His ministry: walking on water, healing the sick, and performing miracles.

Because of Jesus, all of us can be “sons of the resurrection.” We can know that nothing is impossible with God.

Today, ask God to help you grasp what it means to be “sons of the resurrection.” Let Him give you new insights. Allow His Spirit to transform your life.
