The Battle You Can’t See

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

History reminds us that battles are often decided behind the scenes, and The Battle You Can’t See calls us to stay alert, grounded in Christ, and confident in the victory He has already secured.

“When he had dipped the morsel, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. Then after he had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, ‘What you are going to do, do quickly’” (John 13:26–27).

When Judea erupted in a widespread revolt in 66 AD, Rome sent troops under the leadership of a man known as Vespasian. An experienced veteran, he had risen rapidly in the military ranks, leading troops to victory throughout Europe and even Britain.

A likely choice to quell the revolt of the Jews, he arrived in Judea with 60,000 men and quickly ended the unrest in Galilee. But Judea proved to be a tough challenge.

Before this conflict was resolved, following encouragement from his soldiers, Vespasian marched on Rome and became emperor. His son, Titus, supervised the final conquest of Judea, including the destruction of the Temple and Jerusalem.

As the Bible makes clear, the devil hates God’s people. His goal is to destroy them. We see this throughout history when the Egyptians tried to kill the Jewish male babies (Exodus 1), when Haman tried to have all Jews in Persia killed (Esther 3), and the Bible even describes how Satan entered Judas, seeking to kill the Son of God—but Jesus proved triumphant, rising from the dead.

Remember that the devil hates you. His goal is to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10). You can be sure that he will seek to attack you and your family. But you don’t have to be a victim. Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, you have power to defeat Satan and his demons. Be bold. Stand in faith. Declare your victory!

Reflection Question: Where do you need to stand firm instead of giving in to fear?
