The Appointed Time

Daniel was given a detailed vision about events that were unfolding. He might easily have concluded that this vision related to his time and to contemporary rulers and nations. But, instead, he was told how these events would take place “at the appointed time,” the specific moment of God’s choosing, a specific moment that God had fixed.

God was showing Daniel that, in His sovereignty, He both knows what will happen and when it will happen. He knows and understands the “appointed time” for all people, all organizations, all projects, all events.

The Bible is filled with expressions of this aspect of God’s nature. We learn that “it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). On the Day of Pentecost, the disciples learned that God sent His Spirit when the time “had fully come” (Acts 2:1 KJV).

God makes appointments for our lives and for world events. He sets limits. He fixes places and times. Our task is to believe in Him, trust in Him, accept His plans, live within His limits, and work with Him to accomplish His purposes.

The Bible reminds us that we are to trust in Him in every situation. We must realize that He is sovereign. He rules and reigns. He is Lord of all. How can we help but worship Him…humble ourselves before Him…believe His Word…and have such faith in Him that all worry, anxiety, and fear is eliminated?

Today, be confident that God has a plan for your life. He will accomplish His purposes. The end of every project, every organization, and every person “is still to come at the appointed time.” Only God knows that appointed time. Make sure that you trust Him. Cooperate with Him, and accept His sovereignty.
