Peter warned that we would face many “unrighteous” people in the world. He referred to them as men and women who are following the flesh—filled with lust and longing for things that are morally corrupt. These people don’t hesitate to defy the Word of God or reject Christian principles. They flaunt their evil lifestyle and never express regret or reluctance.

Such people long to bring others into their web of deceit or immorality. They sin openly and defiantly, and have no respect for spiritual things, God, or His Word. They live for this life, without concern for eternal consequences.

The sad fact is that, without God, all of us are corrupt. In clear terms, Peter warned of the many ways in which we can be tempted or deceived. We need to be on guard, for unrighteous people are all around us.

Faced with these constant temptations, we can feel overwhelmed. But our situation isn’t hopeless. Peter reassured us that God is ready to rescue and help us. Paul stressed that every temptation we face “is common to man.” He encouraged us that God is faithful and “will provide the way of escape” (1 Corinthians 10:13). The Lord offers to help us recognize the pitfalls and people we should avoid.

Today, heed this warning! Make sure you’re serving God with all your mind, heart, and soul. Seek His help to stay pure and undefiled. Make sure to base your life on His Word, and be faithful to keep His standards. Always be on guard, ready to recognize and resist temptation. Be determined to stand for truth, even in the face of those who defy God.
