Pillar and Support of the Truth

Much of Paul’s letter to Timothy dealt with life in the Church. It was important to understand that the church was not a building or a social organization. It was a representative of “the living God,” and it was to be “the pillar and support of the truth.”

To impact the world for Christ, the Church had to have an unwavering commitment to Truth. This Truth wasn’t based on human philosophies, opinions, or personal interests. It was defined in the person of Jesus Christ, who was “the way, and the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Without that commitment to Him, and to absolute Truth, the Church had no purpose or meaning.

Many people have wavered in this commitment to Truth. Instead of being “the pillar and support of the truth,” they’ve become agents of compromise. They’re more concerned with pleasing other people than God. In contradiction to what the Bible teaches, they reject the idea that there’s just one Way, erroneously believing that there are many “truths” and “ways.”

Today, search your heart and mind. Make sure you aren’t guilty of compromise. Fill your life with the Word of God. Believe it—all of it. Put it into action. Declare that Jesus is the Lord of your life. Renew your commitment to Him. Be prepared to take a stand for Truth.
