Passover Promise

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of God’s Passover promise.

“You shall eat it in this way … it is the LORD’S Passover. […] This day will be a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as a permanent ordinance.”Exodus 12:11, 14 NASB

Tonight at sundown is the beginning of Passover, a day special to God. For the first Passover, He instructed the Israelites to kill a lamb and put its blood “on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses” (v. 7). He was about to “strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the human firstborn to animals” (v. 12) and bring judgment to Egypt.

On that night, God established a perpetual celebration that was central to His relationship with His people. Through Passover, He promised that if they obeyed Him, He would protect and deliver them: “When I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will come upon you” (v. 13). Each Passover would remind them that His promises remained true.

The perfect fulfillment of Passover came when God sent His Son, Jesus, to be our Passover Lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7). He died so that we might be delivered and have our sins forgiven. His death also enables us to experience the power of God in our lives.

Remember all that Jesus did for you as He broke bread with His disciples during their Passover celebration. He knew that soon His body would be broken, and He would shed His blood on the cross.

Jesus is your Passover Lamb. Because He died for you, you can be forgiven and experience freedom and victory. Receive all that He has done for you!

Reflection Question: Reflect on what Jesus has done for you as your perfect Passover Lamb.
