Never Take God for Granted

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

God’s promises are faithful, but Never Take God for Granted reminds us that His blessings are tied to humility, obedience, and a heart that seeks Him sincerely.

“And the carved image of Asherah that he had made he set in the house of which the Lord said to David and to Solomon his son, ‘In this house, and in Jerusalem … I will put my name forever’” (2 Kings 21:7).

After the completion and dedication of the Temple, God told Solomon that His name would be there forever. He was ready to protect and provide for them and answer their prayers. But even when making this promise, God established conditions.

His people were to “humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways.” When they did these things, “then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14). God kept His promises, but His people often took Him for granted and failed to do their part.

We see this pattern during the reign of Manasseh. He committed horrible sins, even setting images of an idol in God’s house. God reminded Manasseh of His Word, consistently given throughout time. Because he had committed sin, the people would be judged. God would abandon them, and “they shall become a prey and a spoil to all their enemies” (v. 14). Why? “Because they have done what is evil in my sight and have provoked me to anger” (v. 15).

Don’t take God for granted. He is holy and righteous. Allow Him to search your heart and convict you of any sin. Humble yourself before Him. Fill your life with His Word. Obey Him. Seek Him with your whole heart.

As you do your part, you can be confident that God will do His part.

Reflection Question: In what area might God be calling you to humble yourself again?

Prayer
Father, I humble myself before You. Cleanse me of sin. Help me to be pure in Your sight. Thank You for answering my prayers. In Jesus’ name, amen.
