Light for the World

Light is a powerful symbol for God’s work. At the beginning of creation, He said, “‘Let there be light’; and there was light” (Genesis 1:3). In his Gospel, John wrote that in Jesus “was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it” (John 1:4-5). Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8:12).

But Jesus told us that now we are “the light of the world.” Without us, the world lives in darkness.

We know that nothing is visible in a completely dark room. Objects cannot be seen and we do not know where we are going. But even the dimmest light changes everything. Suddenly, we can find our way. And things begin to make sense.

In our world, people need the light of the Gospel now more than ever before. Without this light, they stumble in the darkness, looking for meaning. They need to know Jesus. But we have the light. In fact, we are the light.

Today, people all around you need the Gospel. Don’t let them stay in darkness. Let your light shine. Seek to be a person of prayer. Filled with the Spirit, with the fruit of the Spirit flowing through You. Changed by God’s power. Dying to self. Submitting your life to Him. Living in such a way that others glorify our Father in Heaven.
