Jesus Our High Priest

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

When we don’t know what to pray, Jesus, our High Priest, will intercede for us.

“The main point … is this: we have such a high priest … at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister in the sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord set up, not man.”Hebrews 8:1–2 NASB

What was the “main point”? For the writer of Hebrews, it was the fact that Jesus is our High Priest. The writer describes how Jesus fulfilled the plans of God, clearly laid out in the Old Testament. We learn how things like the Law, the Old Testament sacrifices, and the role of the priests all served as “a copy and shadow of the heavenly things” (v. 5).

But the key revelation was that Jesus now is our High Priest. He is seated by the throne of God, forever at the right hand of the Father, in a permanent position of power.

Forever, He is interceding for us in Heaven, and He doesn’t have the limitations that plagued human priests. This means we always can approach the throne of God—day or night. Jesus is there for us as our faithful High Priest.

We don’t have to worry about trying to fit into His schedule or wonder if He has time for us. He never gets tired, and He’s always ready to hear our prayers.

We can talk with Him anytime, about anything. When we do, He’s in a position to take real action to come to our aid. He’s ready to miraculously intervene in our circumstances, accomplishing things that only can be done by the power of God.

Remember that Jesus, your High Priest, is at the right hand of the Father to intercede for you. Don’t wait! Call on Him now!
