Impacting the Lives of Others

Jotham seems to have been a good king. Based on the Bible’s brief account of his life, his accomplishments appear to be positive. He completed several important building projects and prevailed in battles with the Ammonites. Yet there is no sense that he made a major, lasting impact on his times. In fact, “the people continued acting corruptly” while he was king.

Perhaps Jotham tried to impact his people, but simply failed. Perhaps he lacked the kind of persuasive influence needed to encourage positive change. Perhaps he just wasn’t an effective leader. Or perhaps he was “lukewarm” (Revelation 3:16).

In any case, many Believers today are much like Jotham. They may go to church and consider themselves to be “good” people, but they are lukewarm in their faith. They have not truly left everything behind to follow Jesus. Because their lives are marked by compromise, they make little meaningful impact on the world and people around them.

Jesus reminded us that we are called to make a difference! We’re meant to be “the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world.” This means living in such a way that we impact lives for God’s Kingdom (Matthew 5:13-16)…that we believe His Word and put it into practice…that we aren’t intimidated or afraid of what others might say about us…and that we’re sold out for God.

Remember that, every day, you have opportunities to impact people in your family or business, community or church. Don’t be a lukewarm Believer or let the world intimidate you. Instead, make a radical commitment to follow Jesus.

Seek first the Kingdom of God in every area of your life. Be bold and willing to make a difference. Seek to impact Souls for Christ.
