Human History

Scholars and leaders tend to look at history and current events from their own subjective perspective. Through their studies, they seek to discern what factors contribute to events, and how decisions should be made.

To many of these people, it can seem that God is irrelevant. That faith really doesn’t matter. But Paul’s speech in Lystra provides a completely different perspective. He described how “in the generations gone by He permitted all the nations to go their own ways.”

Yes, God may permit nations to act in ways they desire for a season. But He has a plan, and, at the right time, will intervene in world affairs (just as He did with Adam and Eve).

Some conclude that God is not involved in human history. He may be the Creator, but He has abandoned the world. Thus, we are “on our own.”

But Paul reminds us that He has not abandoned us. His laws and principles never change. His Word always is true. We always reap what we sow. He still provides rain. He still answers prayer, guides us, satisfies us, and provides for all we need.

Today, when you think of world events, remember that God may appear to be silent. But always remember that He has a plan, for each person, and the world. He may permit us to go our own way for a season, but remember that He upholds the universe by the word of His power (Hebrews 1:3). He is guiding and sustaining our world moment by moment. His plans will succeed. He never has abandoned us. He is and always remains the sovereign God.
