How God Brought Success

When David became king, Israel was exceedingly vulnerable. It was located on land that was valued by many people. It was a region where many minor skirmishes and major battles had been fought for centuries. There were no permanent borders and no nation really felt secure and settled. Yet, just a few years after being slaves in Egypt, Israel gained possession of this whole land.

Why had they been successful? They only could point to one reason: God’s blessing.

We see this blessing in action when they faced opposition from their perpetual adversary, the Philistines. David did not assume anything, but asked God what they should do. He responded with specific directions, even addressing the kind of trees they would see.

When David did what God commanded, they experienced complete victory. As a result, they struck “down the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even as far as Gezer.” In the aftermath, God caused David to become famous and feared. And Israel had peace and prosperity.

Sadly, this condition did not last long. Why? Because Israel stopped doing the things that brought victory and success.

In our time, God has a plan and purpose for our lives. He has a destiny for each of us. He wants to bless us, to bring us success and victory, peace and prosperity. But we must choose how we will respond.

Today, follow the example of David. Don’t take anything for granted. Seek God and His direction for your life and the situations you face. Fill your life with His Word. Then make sure that you obey Him. You can expect that He will bless you, grant you favor, and bring you victory and success.
