Great Abundance

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

Be a good steward of your resources if you want to accrue great abundance.

“Joseph stored up grain in great abundance like the sand of the sea, until he stopped measuring it, for it was beyond measure.”—Genesis 41:49 NASB

When Joseph heard Pharaoh’s dream, God revealed that He was promising seven years of “great abundance,” followed by seven years of a famine that would ravage the land. After interpreting the dream for Pharaoh, Joseph was appointed to rule Egypt and prepare the country for famine. He didn’t waste any time, but threw himself into the assignment.

Joseph surveyed the land and began gathering food, determined that everyone would participate and the nation would be ready. The result was an overwhelming success! There was “great abundance like the sand of the sea.” This amazing outcome was the result of Joseph’s plan and efforts. He was uniquely prepared for this assignment.

Because of Joseph, Egypt survived the years of famine. The country prospered and actually increased in power and influence. People came from throughout the region to buy grain, and the government gained control over more land.

Joseph’s actions provide a model for us. He demonstrated the importance of understanding God’s plan, being in tune with Him, and following through with single-minded determination. His example also demonstrated that God can bring us great abundance, no matter what is going on in the world … if we obey Him!

Today, learn from Joseph’s example. Commit your life to God. Be prepared for future challenges by filling your life with His Word, listening to His instructions, and obeying Him in every situation. Focus on fulfilling His call on your life.
