God’s River

“Water was flowing from under the threshold of the house […] water reaching the knees … water reaching the hips … it was a river that I could not wade across, because the water had risen, enough water to swim in.” – Ezekiel 47:1, 4-5 NASB

In his vision of the new Jerusalem, Ezekiel saw a river that flowed throughout the area. As it flowed into desert regions, this water changed everything. It brought life and vitality. Everything it touched was renewed, while everything else became stagnant. It did not just make people feel better. It brought healing and transformation.

The impact of this water here symbolizes the move of God’s Spirit, the presence of life-giving nourishment for spirit, soul, and body. Just as the water of God was critical to the new Jerusalem, so His spiritual river is critical to every believer. It gives us wisdom and energy, healing, miracles, power, and productivity. It impacts others and brings lasting change.

The water in the New Jerusalem kept getting deeper and deeper. In the same way, the flow of God’s Spirit gets deeper for those who seek Him and walk with Him. As we study His Word, we can go deeper, gaining more insights.

Right now, His water is flowing, ready for us, but we cannot just watch it. We must get in the flow, and become immersed in it.

Today remember that you need the constant touch of God’s river, His water of life, His Spirit, and His timeless Word. Through the symbolism of Ezekiel’s vision, remember the power and impact provided by His river. Immerse yourself in God’s Word. Seek to be filled with His Spirit. Let Him transform your life, and through you, impact others.
