God’s Holiness

Every day, millions of people take the Lord’s name in vain with cursing and ridicule. Even many who say they love God think nothing of ignoring Him or reinterpreting His Word to satisfy their own interests.

But the Bible warns us to remember that He is Holy and Lord of all the earth. Instead of taking Him for granted, we are to “tremble” before Him. We are to be in awe of Him and realize that the earth shakes at His presence. His name is great and awesome!

While remembering this reverent attitude, we also need to remember that God desires to have a personal relationship with each of us. The amazing thing is that He wants to speak to us, just like He spoke to Moses, Aaron, and Samuel (vs. 6-8).

These men were just human beings, yet they acknowledged God’s holiness. They made mistakes, but God forgave their sins. They feared Him. And because they so honored Him, He blessed them and granted them a special relationship with Him.

Don’t take God for granted, but realize just Who He is. Take His words seriously. Worship Him. As the psalmist wrote, “Exalt the Lord our God and worship at His holy hill, for the Lord our God is holy” (v. 9). In that worship, draw closer to Him into intimate fellowship. Seek to be changed into a vessel for His Spirit. Be ready to impact others with the Gospel.
