God’s Favor

Nehemiah sat down and wept. He had heard that the walls of Jerusalem were broken down and that the exiles living there were in great trouble and disgrace. It was an emotional moment that showed his concern for the things of God and his compassion for his people. He realized that they had great problems. He knew something needed to be done, but he didn’t know what.

He also was aware that he was in a challenging situation. He was not a powerful politician or a man of wealth. He was just a cupbearer who had a huge burden and who needed favor and success from the king.

So, for days he “mourned and fasted and prayed” (v. 4 NIV). He did not know what would happen, or that, one day, God would call on him to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Nehemiah just knew that he was overwhelmed with burdens; he was God’s servant; he could not succeed without Him; his people needed a miracle. And, because he cried out to Him, God granted him favor and success.

As we go through life, no matter what our situation or our resources, we need to realize that our lives are in God’s hands. No matter what problems and challenges we face, we can call on Him for help with our jobs, answers for our churches or families, miracles in our finances, and blessing on our relationships.

Like Nehemiah, remember that you can depend on God. Know that He is ready to hear you and provide what you need. Like Nehemiah, humble yourself before Him. Believe Him for success and favor.
