God’s Character

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

We learn about God’s character by studying Jesus’ life in the Bible.

“He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.”Hebrews 1:3 NASB

What is God really like? While “no one has seen God at any time,” Jesus came into the world to explain Him and show us the Father (John 1:18).

Hebrews explains that Jesus was the “exact representation” of the Father’s nature. The Greek word is the source of the English word character, used here for the only time in the Bible.

Thus, when we read about Jesus, we know exactly what God the Father is like. Jesus’ character was the same as the character of God.

This is why the Christian life begins and ends with Jesus, “the originator and perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). Hebrews spends much time describing why Jesus is so different—so crucial to our faith and every aspect of our lives.

The more intimately we know Jesus, the more we understand God the Father, grasp His wisdom, receive His people, are transformed by His Word, become enlightened about His plans, and grasp our personal destiny.

Today, seek to grow in your relationship with Jesus. Like His disciples, leave everything behind to follow Him. Talk with Him throughout the day and seek to obey Him in every area of your life. Listen to Him and learn to walk in the Spirit. Commit your problems and decisions to Him and seek His direction.

When you do these things, you will draw closer to Jesus and understand more about God, your Heavenly Father.
