Fathers

What is the biggest crisis facing today’s families? Many feel that it is the failure of fathers to fulfill their God-given roles. In fact, according to a report issued by the National Center for Fathering, nearly three-fourths of Americans believe that fatherlessness is “the most significant family or social problem facing America.”

Fathers have an incredible influence on their children. The evidence is overwhelming.

A survey of more than 20,000 parents found that when fathers are involved in their children’s education, their sons and daughters were more likely to receive good grades and enjoy school. The impact was felt with children as young as one year old. Those with fathers who were involved were less likely to have emotional problems.

The Bible tells us that the family unit was designed by God, and the health of the family depends on every person fulfilling his/ her role. The role of the father is particularly central, as husbands and in the lives of their children. Yet, tragically, millions of men today fail to fulfill their role.

Fathers need to remember the impact they can have on their families. They were warned particularly not to aggravate their children, or they could become discouraged and “quit trying.”

If you are a father, ask God to help you be a good example. Show love and affection and make your family a priority. And pray for the fathers in our nation.
