Faithful Actions

To their eyes, nothing had changed. Before them stood Jericho. The only way to confront its army was through its massive walls, which seemed without weakness, and seemingly could repel any attack. God Himself told them that Jericho’s warriors were “valiant.” The Hebrew word indicates that they were strong and mighty. They would be tough opponents. How could Israel be victorious over such a foe?

From a human perspective, this was a discouraging moment. Victory seemed unlikely. Yet their spies had reported that the people of Jericho were afraid and even believed that “the LORD has given you the land” (Joshua 2:9). God had given them His promises, and even told them that He had “given Jericho into your hand.” Yet the city seemed imposing as ever and they still needed to confront the challenge.

Earlier in their history, they had received similar promises only to turn away in fear. What would they do this time? Would they act on God’s promises and believe His Word?

This time, they did obey. And the result was total victory. But this victory only was possible because they acted in faith.

This was faith in action. The Bible tells us how “by faith the walls of Jericho fell down” (Hebrews 11:30). Jesus said that faith is key to unlocking miracles, and doing what seems impossible. That “if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you” (Matthew 17:20).

Do you face problems that seem to have no solutions? The answer? Seek God. Commit your needs to Him. Believe His Word. Trust Him. And walk by faith, not by sight.
