Difficult Challenges

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

During difficult challenges, live in obedience to God’s Word, applying it in every area of your life.

“’Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.’ … Being in agony, He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground.”Luke 22:42–44 NASB

Jesus was “in agony.” Pain and suffering awaited Him, and His path led directly to the cross. His actions provide a model for us to examine and apply.

First, He was obeying God by celebrating Passover. He used that occasion to teach His disciples many important truths. He washed their feet and gave them an example of being a servant.

Then, He spent time in such intense and earnest prayer that sweat “like drops of blood” fell to the ground.

Jesus asked His disciples to spend time with Him in prayer. He knew tough times were ahead for them, and they too would need supernatural insight, power, and wisdom. But instead of praying, the disciples fell asleep.

Right now, think about the problems you face—your struggles and uncertainties; challenges at your job, in your community, or in your family; financial needs. Do you need wisdom and guidance? Are you afraid or worried about the future?

Make sure you are living in obedience to God’s Word, applying it in every area of your life. Then, seek God in earnest prayer. Pour out your heart. Seek His wisdom and guidance. Let Him know your needs and concerns.

Keep praying until you have God’s peace and your burdens have lifted. Let Him know you want His will, not your own. Place your trust in Him, and move forward with confidence and boldness.

Reflection Question: Compose a prayer requesting specific guidance from God.
