Differences

Even among people who believe the Bible and are committed to following Jesus, many differences are found. There might be shades of difference and somewhat different points of emphasis because of different experiences. Some are stronger in their faith than others. Some know the Bible more intimately. And we have different personalities.

This does not mean that those with whom we disagree are totally wrong (or that we are totally right). As humans, we all understand in part (1 Corinthians 13:12). We all are at different points in our journey. God has a unique relationship with each of us. And each person has a special calling.

This means that, in some ways, we see the world at least a little differently. At the same time, the Bible emphasizes that some things can’t be compromised. There is one true God (1 Timothy 2:5) and only one true way to Him through Jesus (John 14:6).

How do you react to believers with whom you have differences? Do you accept them? Reject them? Disassociate from them? Love them? Pray for them? Are you open to God’s revelations about your life?

Ask God to give you discernment about how you should react to people with whom you have differences. Do not compromise your commitment to Biblical truth, but remember to pray for those with whom you have differences. Seek to be an instrument of healing, peace, and restoration and an example of Christ-like love.
