Choosing the Narrow Road

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

Following Jesus is more than admiration, and Choosing the Narrow Road calls us to lay everything down and walk the path of true discipleship.

“Calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me’” (Mark 8:34).

Many believe that Jesus was a great moral teacher—even the greatest in all history. Others think He was a wise man, maybe even a man who worked miracles. But how many really believe He is the Son of God?

During Jesus’ earthly ministry, many followed Him, eager to hear Him teach and see Him perform miracles. But He knew many would fall away and stop following Him.

At one point, Peter rebuked Him for teaching that the Son of Man would “suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.” Jesus said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man” (vs. 31–33).

Then He taught a fundamental truth: No one could come after Him unless they denied themselves, took up their cross, and followed Him.

Many people may say they are Christians, but they don’t pass this test. They allow the standards of the world to creep into their lives. They make the mistake of assuming they can follow Jesus but still live and act like the world. But in every circumstance, Jesus calls us to take the narrow road and lay everything aside to follow Him wherever He leads.

God’s path will lead you to a life of meaning and fulfillment, joy and purpose!

Reflection Question: What is Jesus asking you to lay aside so you can follow Him fully?

Prayer
