Called to a Place

Like Abraham, we are called to a place, a time, and an assignment. Are you ready to go by faith where God leads?

“By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he left, not knowing where he was going.”—Hebrews 11:8 NASB

Abraham learned that to receive his inheritance, he had to go to a specific place and take a specific action at a specific time. He discovered that living by faith involved not just lip service, but concrete actions based on obedience. It didn’t matter what was going on in the world, what his friends were saying, or what made sense to him. He simply had to obey God and trust Him every step of the way.

Ultimately, obedience means “looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.” It also means living “as a stranger … as in a foreign land” and “living in tents” (vs. 9–10).

Abraham learned that living by faith means surrendering wholeheartedly to God. We must follow Him wherever He leads us, even when we don’t know where we’re going. Sometimes we must act even when we don’t know why. Living by faith means not trusting in ourselves or in our own wisdom, circumstances, other people, or anything else. It means trusting completely in God to guide us and provide for us.

Ultimately, living by faith means relinquishing control of our lives to the Lord and surrendering the outcome of our actions and decisions to Him.

The great heroes in the Bible were people who acted in faith. Today, God has a special place for you. Follow His call. Live by faith, and obey His prompting every step of the way.
