Blessing for Your Faithfulness

Of all the people in the Bible, why did God single out Noah, Daniel, and Job? Were they just examples of men whose lives contrasted with the sin so prevalent in Israel? Or were there things about them that made them particularly appropriate? Examining their lives, we see how all three were able to stand alone in the midst of hostile, difficult circumstances, resist pressure to compromise, and remain true to God.

Noah was willing to stand alone and build an ark at a time when the world was filled with corruption. Daniel lived in a foreign land surrounded by people who advocated an alien way of life. Against enormous pressure, he remained true to God, even though this meant being thrown into a den of lions.

Job went through difficult conditions. Yet God Himself acknowledged that he was “blameless, upright, fearing God and turning away from evil” (Job 1:1). He lost his possessions and became wracked with disease. His wife and friends made accusations against him. He, too, was puzzled about what happened, yet he remained faithful and righteous in God’s sight. The Bible holds up Job as an example of “endurance” (James 5:11). In the end, he was vindicated.

The life of Job reminds us that God knows what we go through. He looks for people like Job, Daniel, and Noah who remain faithful through every kind of situation, who persist and refuse to compromise.
